Our story
South Ridge Abstract and Title Co. was incorporated on February 17, 1958. Even before that, founders J. Berch Haviland and DeBlois Milledge were building one of the first computerized title plants in the United States, using an experimental IBM computer at the University of Miami — at a time when most abstract companies still worked from index cards.
John Haviland, J. Berch's son, took over the company in the 1980s and led it through decades of change in the title industry. South Ridge was among the first title companies in Florida to offer computerized real estate closings. Today the company is owned and operated by Nathan Gray and Kate Haviland Gray, carrying a family tradition into its third generation.
Independent, on purpose
We are not owned by a bank, a real estate brokerage, a law firm or a title insurance underwriter. That independence means we have no interests other than our customers' — which is why so many of them come back, closing after closing, and send their friends and family.
